The big holiday is upon us. When people celebrate the end of a year, and welcome a new beginning. Of course, there will be a lot of bars packed wall-to-wall with the celebrators.
If you’re not aware, many bars will have a cover charge for the extra entertainment and crowd control inherent in New Year’s Eve celebrations. Expect $5-10 cover charges at many bars. Chances are, many of you have your NYE plans set. For those of you who don’t, contact your favorite bar and find out if reservations are needed. This will save you having to drive all over town to find everything is sold out.
For a few highlights:
EVE is the celebration being held around the Salt Palace and other venues. Concerts, film, and more are happening Friday and Saturday night, and full-access passes are only $15. The Off-Broadway Theatre’s improv troupe, Laughing Stock, will be performing several shows this weekend, and are included in your EVE admission. Clark Planetarium is also participating, which means your EVE ticket will get you into their laser shows. See the music lineup, get tickets, and more information at EVEslc.com.
Looking for a masquerade? Maybe a little bondage? Leave it to Area 51 to host the most fetish-filled NYE party at their Fetish Ball Masquerade. Doors open at 8pm, admission is $10 and includes a free mask and gift bags.
How about great music, a grown-up atmosphere, and delicious pizza? The State Room has The Heartless Bastards performing two sets, along with Holy Water Buffalo. There will be pizza from Este, and a champagne toast at midnight. There are limited tickets available, and surprisingly they are still available. $40 admission.
Samba Fogo will be dancing and playing with fire at The Woodshed for New Year’s Eve. Check out this one-of-a-kind performance and spend the night with the Afro-Brazillian entertainment.
If you’re looking for a few places without a cover, check out Bourbon House (19 east 200 south), Scallywags (3040 south State St.), or Devil’s Daughter (533 south 500 west). All great new bars to ring in the new year.
Whatever you get up to, be safe, and be responsible. A DUI or a wreck isn’t worth saving a few dollars. Plan to ride with friends, take a cab, but don’t let the evening end on a bad note. Robert J DeBry’s law firm will even reimburse your cab ride, so take advantage of that.
